Between Fortaleza Street and Cristo Street, protests could be heard, along with the sounds of instruments and protest songs in the background. On Saturday the 14th, demonstrators gathered to oppose the anti-immigration policies of the United States government and the Puerto Rican government's cooperation with those policies, such as providing the Department of Homeland Security with information from immigrants’ driver’s licenses. This occurred despite Puerto Rico not being a state of the United States, yet still subject to federal policies dictated in Washington, D.C. The governor could have refused to provide the information, as many other States and governments have done in the United States. She did not.
